GOG Galaxy is the official client for Mac of this popular video game platform, thanks to which you can download and play all the video games in your GOG library. Of course, you can also buy games through the store, which is included within the client itself.
The main function of GOG Galaxy is to make life easier for its users. That's why, just like with Steam or the Epic Store, you can receive automatic updates for all the video games you've installed. This won't be necessary for older games, but it's good for some of the more modern releases, such as Cyberpunk or many new releases from the indie scene.
From GOG Galaxy, you can also visit the GOG.com forums and chat with other friends who are also online. In addition to this, you can take a look at each game file in your library and download all the additional content you have: manuals, maps, pictures, soundtracks, and so on. All this content can be saved directly to your hard drive.
GOG Galaxy is pretty much an essential video game client for regular GOG users. But it isn't 100% essential because, unlike Steam or Origin, you DON'T need it to play your video games. In other words, you can use GOG Galaxy if you want to, but if you don't have stable Internet or simply don't feel like using it, you don't have to.
