OpenLoco is a free and open source strategy and management game which allows you to enjoy the classic Chris Sawyer's Locomotion with a host of improvements and more convenient gameplay. This project, which started in 2018, offers a complete re-implementation of the original game (which is written in x86 assembly) in C++. To keep the same feeling as the original title, it uses exactly the same graphics and sounds, so you will need a legal copy of the original game in order to play it.
Simple installation
Installing OpenLoco is very easy. All you have to do is unzip the compressed file in a new folder and double-click on the executable. If you have Locomotion installed on your PC, the executable will automatically detect it and complete the installation. On some occasions, especially if you use several different hard disks, you may have to manually indicate the location of the original game. This process will take no longer than a minute or two, after which you will be able to play the game.
Manage your own transport company
The OpenLoco mechanics, like in the original Locomotion, revolve around building up infrastructure so that you can develop a complete transport network in your city. The game offers several dozen different settings, in which you will have to build road networks for your trucks, train tracks for the railroads, and establish bus routes, commercial flights, and much more. In the different levels of the game you will be able to manage land, sea and air transport.
